CEV Women’s Junior Championship 2010: Russia, Czech Republic and Serbia win their opening matches
The fun-filled activity of 2010 CEV Junior European Volleyball Championship cropped out some great results in the final round. Both genders battled for primacy in the volleyball field while courts were rocked with amazing performances.
The women’s teams opened the tournament on September 4 after undergoing extensive preparations and training sessions. Finally, the action at 2010 CEV Women’s Junior European Volleyball Championship started.
Teams from Serbia, Russia, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, and Czech Republic approached the courts on the opening day. Serbia was the centre of this fabulous volleyball stroke. The hosts performed well and earned success in their first match. Similarly, Russia and Czech Republic also made their mark and proudly left the court as winners.
Russia vs. Belgium (1st Match)
Russia clashed with Belgium on the opening day and achieved an incredible victory by posting a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-17, and 25-13) win. Earlier, Russia had a difficult time in overcoming Belgium which finished third in the 2009 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship.
In the opening match, Belgium produced good blocks and tried to create much trouble for Russia by delivering them sharp serves. Russians made a few mistakes in the first set that resulted in their loss while Belgium claimed their first-set win with a margin of three points (25-22).
However, Russia made a great comeback in rest of the sets and stormed the Belgian side with electrifying spikes and kills. Russian players developed good combinations and paid more attention on passing and handling the ball. Finally, Russia won the final three sets and claimed match victory over Belgium.
Czech Republic vs. Slovenia (2nd Match)
In the second opener, Czech Republic came face-to-face with Slovenia but luck stood with the Republicans as it favored them with a 3-1 (25-6, 24-26, 25-16, and 25-18) victory over Slovenia. The match’s first set was heavily influenced by Czech Republic who restricted their rivals to a single digit score. They totally overpowered Slovenia and posted a 25-6 win.
Slovenians displayed their power in the second set and achieved success while breaking Republic’s lead. The second set ended at 26-24 after a weary fight. However, Slovenia couldn’t repeat the same performance and lost the next two sets, ultimately losing the match.
Serbia vs. Netherlands (3rd Match)
The hosts, Serbia collided with Netherlands on their home-court in the third opening match. It was the most awaited contest as the arena was filled with scores of fans, who had gathered to watch their home-team perform.
Their cheers encouraged Serbia to claim victory over the visitors with a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, and 25-12). Sara Klisura and AnaBjelica totally rocked the podium with their strong spikes. The team took full advantage of their physical strength and comfortably dismissed the Dutch team.
They easily built a 2-0 lead and continued with the same level of energy in the third set. Serbia didn’t experience much resistance from Netherlands and paved their way to the final victory. Klisura was the centre of attention as she got 13 kills and added valuable points to her team’s score.
