CEV to collaborate with FIVB regarding match schedules - Volleyball
The president of the Confédération Européenne de Volleyball (CEV), André Meyer, made a recent announcement that dealt with the latest developments in his organization which specifically includes the revision of the international
calendar by collaborating with the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).
The revision of the scheduled matches is being taken into consideration because it is felt that they are burdening athletes and also affecting their health. This is not because the matches are tightly packed together but because almost every team plays a
surplus number of matches.
Meyer commented on the issue in the following words: “We want to find a consensus with the FIVB possibly dropping the many qualification rounds we play as they keep the players busy for most of the year.”
Apart from dealing with the issue of the calendar, Meyer also pointed out the necessity of creating an awareness of both volleyball as well as beach volleyball among the youth.
“We have ascertained that in many countries Volleyball is not being played at all at school, while some others have been able to work out very interesting actions to attract as many youngsters as possible to our sport. We shall learn from these experiences,
share their formula with other nations and work intensively also to support grass-roots projects,” Meyer said.
Meyer also commented positively on the cooperation that is prevalent among other Continental Confederations as it facilitates the development of volleyball in their own specific regions. For instance, there has been an exchange of referees with Africa. Apart
from that, information interchange concerning Beach Volleyball has also taken place.
The CEV or the European Volleyball Confederation is the governing body of a total of 55 National Federations in the continent of Europe. The two sports that come under it are Volleyball as well as Beach Volleyball. CEV holds the responsibility of organizing
matches related to both the sports in Europe.
The CEV is in essence the supporting institution of the FIVB and its headquarters are situated in Luxembourg. The CEV has been able to successfully organize and conduct matches throughout Europe from the time of its inception.
