  1. I don't know others' experiences. I have always suffered from migraines.  Switching to CFLs in our vanity a year ago has not increased them.  I can say that when I do have a headache, I appreciate their softer glow and cooler temperature in my bathroom vanity over the previous harsher, hotter lights I previously had.  Also, they don't flicker, like some of the old tube-style lights.  In other areas of our house, we've had them for many years, and they don't flicker after long use, either.

Also, family isn't  sicker.  However, it is a good question for further study.  It would be interesting to know whether the complaints are real, or whether people are just trying to avoid using them in principle (ie. "Don't tell me what kind of bulbs to use!").

If they seem to be bothering you, there are also LED lights available (though a bit more expensive at the moment).

some people *are* sensitive to the flickering (or whatever) of flourescent lamps.

    this makes it a "trigger"

  3. I never heard of CFSs causing migraines or any other illness.
