  1. they are good.. the bad thing is that they are more expensive, butt im willing to pay that extra 3 dollars

  2. I have heard a lot of criticism on these, especially with the elderly, since i have done jobs with giving away free CFLs. They are concerned with the amount of mercury in them. It is true they do have mercury, but think of this: your watch battery has more mercury that a CFL lightbulb! Older housing thermostats also have a large amount of mercury than do CFLs. remember to properly dispose of these items (especially CFLs).

The below site is a comparison of CFLs and regular lightbulbs and will give you details on mercury within them.

  3. The problem with CFLs is that if you drop and break one you need to have a full hazardous materials team remove the broken bulb and decontaminate your house. This can cost several thousand dollars to do. So do not drop one please. Next unlike batteries and other electronics there is currently no recycling path for these bulbs and so they get thrown in the trash to contaminate land fills with mercury.

  4. I am constantly aware of the need to reduce my personal carbon footprint and do all I can including having changed to a smaller, more efficient car. I have installed CFL bulbs on stairs, in hallways, cellar, attic, garage etc. but I will not, however, use them in the living/work area of my home (I work from home). Even a quick glance at the light they produce through a spectroscope shows large areas missing from the spectrum, these missing colours result in the distortion of colours in everything one looks at in this light. Incandescent lighting is far from perfect but reduces this problem greatly. It may be a personal reaction but I find that if I spend any length of time reading in CFL light I develop considerable eye strain.

There is no perfect solution but, by the selective use of CFL bulbs, a reasonable compromise can be achieved.

  5. CFL are always good there is no question they require less electricity and they emit less carbons

  6. yes they are very good they reduce cost in electricity bills and are longer lasting.

they start with a low light but then illuminate to regular bulbs. they do cost a bit more than regular bulbs but i recommend them.

  7. What bad in them?

They are very good source for saving precious electricity

  8. Good, they save electriciy and last longer, so they take less manufacturing resources to light your house. They cost more up front, but they save you money in the long run. The only negative is the small amount fo mercury in them, if you don't break them and dispose of them properly they pose no threat. Mercury has always been in flourescent bulbs and people have been tossing the tubes into garbage cans and breaking them for years with no ill effect.
