for the CFL, do you need to be scouted to get in, or you must try out, and also how much does a CFL player make?

  1. you CAN tryout at certain times for certain teams but its unlikely that you'll make it, the best way is to be scouted, usually out of a CIS team and they dont make much, most players have second jobs to live comfortably, but consider that the highest pay player get about 400,000 and the cfl has a cap of about 2 million, i think

  2. i do believe that they do have walkons but am not possitive

  3. Some teams hold open tryouts, but they are really more of a way to publicize the team than actually find players. It's very seldom that a player is actually selected from such "cattle calls".

  4. You just have to be bad enough not to get drafted by the NFL.

I was really shocked and stunned they even had a sub category for the CFL. That's cute.....

  5. The CFL holds an annual combine of its own, but I believe it's by invitation.  Contact the CFL or one of the teams for more info.  I provided a link below to a US organization that provides scouting details to CFL teams.

Whether you're scouted or not, you have to get invited to try out an then get invited to training camp.  If you have the talent and believe you can play in the CFL you'll eventually need an agent, so why not find one now and get the process started.  A professional agent knows who to contact at each team.  You could also put together a resume (experience, physical statistics, 40-yard speed, strength, etc) and some video of yourself in action to send to each team on DVD or VHS.

  6. A little while ago, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were having open tryouts, cuz they were pretty desperate.  I wouldn't be surprised if they still do, heh heh.

But yeah, unless you're a superstar RB or a QB, you won't make much more money than the average joe, and will probably need to find another job in the off-season.  Most people up here play for the love of the game, not the love of money.

  7. To answer your first question, you do not need to be scouted to get in, but it certainly helps. Most teams have some sort of "walk on" policy but you have to go through proper channels. A good agent will know how to go about this.

A CFL players salary varies greatly depending on position, whether you are a starter, or practice squad. $ range from as low $20,000 to as high as $400,000.

  8. Teams tend to hold tryouts, but really all someone has to do is call them up and ask them for an invite to camp. the new salary cap of 4 million has some players taking pay cuts.

The average CFL salary is about $45,000 Canadian.

Starters, excluding quarterbacks, can command anywhere between $60,000 and $120,000, depending on their position. Quarterbacks are generally the highest-paid players, making between $150,000 and $300,000.

  9. they make around 1 million a year and you can be from anywhere

  10. hey good question. to play in te cfl most of the players are scouted but there are the few that get to tryout and make it. not very many but some people do tryout randomly and make the team. almost all strters were scouted though.
