  1. In basic training, they only do emergency dentistry.

They wait until you get to your first duty station, before they start fixing any problems you have , dental wise.

Whether you can say no to getting your wisdom teeth taken out,

Depends on how they are growing.

IE, if they get to the point, where they start to impact your other teeth, then they will order you to get them taken out.

Because it could effect you being mission ready.

They offered me the choice for the first 3.5 years I was in the Air Force, which I always turned down.

Then my wisdom teeth, started growing into my back molars,

And they told me I had no choice and I was told, I had to have them taken out.

Get them taken out, it doesn't hurt as bad as you have been told,

Better to get them taken out when its free, then having to pay for it, after you get out of the coast guard.

  2. I don't know how queasy you are, but I would have them taken out before you leave. If you do have to get your wisdom teeth removed in boot, you won't be put under anesthetics like you would be at your local oral surgeon. You will have novacaine injected and hear some unpleasant things :/
