Determine how many moles of base are needed to neutralize 2 mol of acid for each of the following reactions.

a) HNO3 + KOH -->

b) H2SO4 + NaOH -->

  1. nitric acid is monoprotic ( has one proton equivalent.per mole...) therefore you will need one mole equivalent of base per mole of HNO3...KOH has one mole equivalent so you will need one mole of KOH per mole of acid   since you have two moles to neutralize, it will require two moles of KOH

    H2SO4 is diprotic meaning it has two proton equivalents per mole of acid  ...soo 2 moles of H2SO4 will generate 4 moles of protons..therfore you will need 4 moles of NaOH to react with the H2SO4
