at room temp, potassium is classified as

  1. Potassium is a metallic solid. It is what it is: a metal and a solid! A molecular solid is one where covalent bonds are present, such as in sugar or aspirin. A network solid also has covalent bonds, but they are held together by an extensive network of covalent bonds that repeat over and over. An example is diamond. An ionic solid is a crystalline substance consisting of cations and anions held together by the electroststic opposite charges. Examples are NaCl, CuSO4, etc.
