Question:

CHRISTIANS, EXPLAIN THIS???

just asked this but I changed the title

Wise words by a wise man:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?

Then he is not omnipotent.

Is he able, but not willing?

Then he is malevolent.

Is he both able, and willing?

Then whence cometh evil?

Is he neither able nor willing?

Then why call him God.

~Epicurus

So take your pick, evil god, or not omnipotent god? or both???

there is really no way out of it... if you say that god may do as he pleases, then you have marked him as evil. If you say that god left control of the earth to man, then you have marked him as not omnipotent.

  1. Sorry but this is by a sinful man. He can do what He wants, when He wants, BUT He wants to see something from us, first: loyalty, faith and belief. The usual time we turn to Him is when we are having problems. He would like to see us turn to Him when we have no problems and just say thank you. Our life and all we have are given to us by Him. He adores and loves us, but just like a parent, He isn't going to do everything for us. Then we would be spoiled, wait that is what we are right now, spoiled children. But He remains around us just waiting for the moment when we return to Him.

  2. Evil came from your God given right to free will. He is both willing and able. That is why sin causes death. It is his tool to cleanse the universe. It is coming soon.

  3. ♥♥♥Loving Creator ♥♥♥

  4.   We are supposed to repent through doing what God wants us to do;  you have to read His Word to see what He wants you to do.  You have to ask Christ to come into your life to be your personal Savior and to forgive you of your sin and be your Lord and Savior.  Jesus said that He is the way , the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, by by Him.   Accepting and asking Jesus in is your access to God and then when you have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you, we are supposed to turn from evil with the Holy Spirit's help.

Is there still evil in the earth because people are not listening to Him, not following Him, not seeking Him, not taking heed to what He says in His Word, not doing His Word  ( so that they can be blessed)?

  5. I answered it.  Did you read my answer?  The man is not so wise as he thinks he is.

  6. The only reasonable conclusion to draw is that there is no god.

  7. he GAVE some control of the earth to man

he gave up a small amount of his power so that we could have free will, he could take it back if he wanted.

'how unsearchable his judgements, and his paths beyond tracing out. Who has known the mind of the Lord, who has given him counsel?'

    Romans 11:33-35

  8. God is most assuredly willing and able.

Evil comes from the ability to choose the wrong path.  Admittedly, some people feel that if God had not created evil in the first place, it would not exist.  That is in desperate need of clarification.  It is more accurate to say that if God had not created free will, evil would not exist.  For along with the ability to choose comes the reality that a wrong choice – a wrong path – a wicked path – comes into existence.  Hence, the possibility of evil.

So the fundamental question has to do, not with the fact that evil exists, but, rather, with the reason God is temporarily allowing it.  The temporary nature of this allowance needs to be stressed.  He is doing so for a purpose.  It is not to benefit him, it is to benefit us. To illustrate:  parents have a child in serious condition.  The little sweetie pie is in pain, crying, moaning, pleading with mommy and daddy to make it stop.  She has suffered in this condition for some time.  Her condition has been assessed and diagnosed.  Remedies have been considered by the team of doctors.  A liver transplant is in order.  It is the only way.  Surgery has been scheduled.  But the liver donation has not arrived although it is on its way by air flight.  Moreover, the child’s blood pressure is much too high for surgery at the moment, although she is on medication to bring it down.  Indeed, the team of doctors have made all preparation for the upcoming surgery.  Now shall we blame the parents for the evil (the condition) of the child?  Shall we blame the doctors?  Should the parents perhaps forcibly take part of the liver of some nurse walking the hallway and then have a passing RN perform the transplant?  Should they not wait for the medication to bring down sweetie pie’s blood pressure?  Or can we see the benefit to the child of resolving things in a proper manner?

To understand why a willing and able God has not YET brought an end to our suffering requires that we understand the source, the nature, and the extent of the wickedness.  But to make a judgment call with insufficient or partial information is foolish.  Indeed, another wise man said:  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœWhen anyone is replying to a matter before he hears it, that is foolishness on his part and a humiliation.”  Proverbs 18:13.

The issue of evil cannot be reduced to such a simplistic formula as found in the question.

    Hannah J Paul

  9. And yet, the one time in the Bible that God may have destroyed evil, people STILL call Him evil.  He drowned every person in the world, remember?  Are you SURE you want Him destroying evil?

Oh yes, He's both willing and able.  But because of His mercy, we're allowed to be as evil or as good as we choose.  Maybe you should be thankful that He HASN'T "destroyed evil."

  10. nope

  11. God "restrains" evil. If God didn't restrain evil then this world would have already been destroyed by selfish and violent human beings. God will eliminate evil at the end of this age, but for right now He is letting humanity go through a process so that on the day of judgment those who halted their rebellion against the Creator and surrendered to the Lord Jesus will be with Him while those who continued in their rebellion will not.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." 6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

  12. Actually this is not very wise at all and there is a rather easy way out of it as you say.

Is God willing to prevent evil but not able?  NO God is willing and able.

Is God able but not willing? again God is willing and able and also able and willing.

You my friend are not a finished product but are finished by being made new through the atonement God provides you.

The fact that God is patient with you has nothing to do with God's abilities but has to do with God's mercy.

  13. God is God. although I am only 11, i know that. God is not evil for if he was, he wouldn't create us and leave the world to himself.God is not Omnipotent because God never left earth to man. He just told us to keep it in harmony until the day he comes. Understand, God told us to keep it in harmony right? Then why does he still answer my prayer. All you need is Faith
