CIS volleyball finals coming to McMaster University – Volleyball news
It has recently been revealed that McMaster University is going to host the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) volleyball finals. The title match will not be the only event that the university’s courts will see. There are a series of both national as well
as international events that will take place at McMaster this year.
The Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s championship tournament will also be coming to McMaster in March from the 2nd to the 4th. McMaster has bigger plans for CIS tournaments and has bid to play host to the tournament for two years.
However, it was given the opportunity to be the host for one year only.
Tim Louks, the volleyball coach of the Marauder’s women’s team, made the following comments about the upcoming tournament: “It's a great way to engage the local volleyball community and build some momentum for the CIS championships. We want to put women's
volleyball on everyone's radar heading to next March. This should be a terrific start.”
The start of the season at the university courts will see the senior woman’s teams of Canada as well as Netherlands lock horns. The match between the two teams will take place on the 18th of August. It will be a good experience for the Canadian
team, which ranks 20th in the world, to have a contest against the number 12th ranked Dutch team.
After having met at the Burridge Gym, both teams will be seeing each other again in a tour that will comprise of four matches. During this time, both teams will be visiting Oshawa, Hamilton as well as Waterloo. The tour is going to start from August 16th
and last until August 21. These matches should serve as a practice session for the London 2012 Olympics qualification events.
Other than that, the McMaster team has also chalked up a plan to be at their best in the nationals. The team will be competing against Montreal, Laval as well as Manitoba in non-conference matches to get into form for the tough tournaments ahead.
