  1. Anyone can take the Cisco exams. Some of the higher ones have requirements, such as taking the CCIE requires that you already have a CCNA.

Anyone can take the CCNA exam though and getting the certification will definately put your resume above those without it.

Edit: There are two books for the CCNA : CCNA 1 and 2, and CCNA 3 and 4. You might also want the lab books that accompany those two books, and if you don't have access to the equipment, get a program called "packet tracer" from cisco.

  2. Well, a CCNA is not the same as a BSC in computing etc... A CCNA is tailored-made for a very particular job- a network administrator, but is not limited to that. A BSC, for example, on the other hand, is more 'general'.....Thats why many students, after completing their BSC/ MSC studies opt for a Cisco course. Many institutions demand a Cisco certificate because of the high standards set by Cisco. So, having a CCNA might well give you a boost. By the way, to do a CCNA, you need not have studied computing/programming etc.....All you need is to find a reputable institution, and be serious in your studies! OF COURSE, PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF IT is recommended, and will be an advantage to you.....You might consider an A+ and an N+ certification before your CCNA. And YES! There are good job propects everywhere round the globe with Cisco. I became a Cisco instructor when I was 17! Going 19 this 30th of August! You don't have to worry about the fact that you did not do IT before. I, myself studied Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Maths at school. However, this did not stop me from becoming a Cisco instructor. All that matters is how serious and dedicated you will be in your studies!

    Good luck!
