CJ Wilson offers words of advice to younger players at MLB Fan Cave
Christopher John Wilson got a chance to head out to the Major League Baseball Fan Cave in New York, to spend some time with the fans.
Apart from imparting keen points on martial arts and Tattoos, the Texas Rangers pitcher talked about his club and the important events taking place in the near future. There was also advice for the younger ball players, who are looking to come on to the
Major League format.
Being the top ace in the rotation for the Rangers is a hard thing to consider but the ace is looking to make the most of his opportunity this season. Keeping his mind on the game and the opposition he comes across, Wilson is following Cliff Lee in his footsteps.
With a 1–0 campaign start in the season, the hurler is looking to extend his 15 wins 2010 tenure, this year. Nevertheless, he was willing to talk about the key things prospects need to learn.
"The biggest thing I always try to encourage the young guys to do is develop a physical routine, where they are doing the same thing when they warm up before the game", Wilson said.
"They throw the same type of pitches in their [bullpen sessions] that they do when they are throwing the bullpen before the game. It gives you a consistency, so your thoughts aren't everywhere”.
The hurler explained that this may be the case because when a pitcher tends to warm up before a game, he will not be able to throw a slider the way he wants. “He’ll be looking for the perfect delivery and he will tend to throw the ball 30 times. All the
while, the time falls short and game gets the starting signal".
"You just have to be productive with your reps and not overdo it when you are warming up before a game. It's the No. 1 thing that young guys do wrong, I'd say".
Wilson has been creating a lot of appreciation amongst the fans, as he has been taking his time to interact with them. Giving out free advice is something his supporters would appreciate.
