CLT20 2010: Bangalore vs. Chennai - First Semifinal -- Pen Pics
Let us take our readers to the highlights of what could be termed a brilliant contest between the Indian Juggernauts. But, one man who failed to impress the crowd was the Indian spin bowling maestro, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Dent-c41093 in the
opposition’s batting line up. Suresh Raina, however, stole the show for the night with his absolutely thrilling performance that took his team to a massive victory.
Due to heavy downpour, the match started later than expected while the shortened format was shortened even more to 17 overs a side. Chennai made a brilliant start and Raina led the team from the front with his well deserved 94 from 67 deliveries. The ball
was struck all over the ground for boundaries and the torture almost seemed never ending. The drama of Dale Steyn’s injury could be termed as the final nail in the coffin for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the team lost their spearhead pace bowler.
CATCH OF THE DAY
This particular catch could easily be termed as the epitome of passion and enthusiasm as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn demonstrated what it takes to be a world class cricketer. The pace bowler backpedalled to take a skier of a shot from Michael Hussey, the Australian star
batsman. While keeping his eyes on the ball, however, he might have misjudged his run and in the end with his back arching and his hands held behind his head, he braced himself to take the catch.
But, the bowler could not control himself in the position and fell on his back as his head hit the ground with much force. He got injured and wound up with a concussion. This marked the beginning of the end for Bangalore.
SLOG OF THE DAY
Suresh Raina is a classy batsman on a usual day and all die hard cricket fans are well aware of that. However, on this particular day, against the Royal Challengers he told them what it meant to be truly Royal in an ugly way of course. Aesthetics never make
it to the scoreboard and surely so.
Time and again, he jabbed like a serial killer at short of length deliveries hit over the mid wicket boundary. The way he hit yesterday was ugly as it almost seemed that his front shoulder would pop out of its socket. On many occasions, the bat almost flew
out of his hands and on even more occasions, the ball almost soared out of the stadium.
MISJUDGEMENT OF THE DAY
B Akhil is usually a safe fielder but not particularly so on the judgment day, where he made a gross error. When M Vijay heaved a mistimed shot towards deep midwicket, the fielder panicked right from the start as he stuttered and took a couple of steps to
pause in mid air as if he just remembered the face of a beautiful woman and then went on to drop the catch. Someone in the crowd yelled out, “You Moron!”
MISTAKE OF THE DAY
The mistake of the day had to be from a certain Manish Pandey, who wasn’t standing at the edge of the boundary line, something that was expected of him but he was rather standing too far inside. This mistake did snatch victory from the Royal Challengers,
as Raina earlier in the day mowed a ball by Kumble to deep midwicket and it went straight over Pandey.
The fielder did awfully well to stop the ball by jumping high in the air, but had he been standing close to the boundary he would have had no issue to take that catch comfortably. Raina was on 18 then, and this gross misjudgment cost the Challengers this
match. Raina was unassailable after that in his knock of 94 that led his team to a comfortable win against the Royal Challengers, who braced themselves for a demoralizing defeat in the semi final.
