CLT20 2011: Auckland v Somerset – First Innings Recap
Auckland, after being thrashed by Kolkata Knight Riders earlier, faced the wrath of Somerset last night at the http://www.espncricinfo.com/champions-league-twenty20-2011/content/ground/58142.html (neutral venue).
After winning the toss, Auckland decided to bat first and started their innings with new hope and enthusiasm. The openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Alroy-Martin-c50714 Guptil and Jimmy Adams once again failed to provide a dream start to their team as Auckland lost their first wicket with just
eight runs on the board.

Similarly the one-down batsman, Robert Quiney, did not hang around for much and went back to the pavilion after scoring just four runs. He was out in the same fashion as Adams but this time the wicket was for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991, who bowled exceptionally well
and took two wickets in his quota of four overs, conceding just 21 runs.
Quiney’s wicket made an alley for the Kiwis' seasoned batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647, off the bowling of Trego who also bowled well to contain
the Auckland batsmen. He took two wickets for 26 runs in four overs. Guptil scored just nine runs off 10 balls and smashed only one boundary.
Auckland were left in misery by their top order as they had lost three vital wickets for just 14 runs. In this difficult situation, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Skipper came into the middle to sail the sinking ship and he succeeded in his endeavour to some extent as he
built a solid partnership of 49 runs with Vincent.
The skipper was playing intelligently and rotating the strike in order to unsettle the bowlers, but unfortunately, he fell short of his crease after scoring 22 runs and went back to the pavilion leaving his partner high and dry.
However, Vincent did not lose courage and kept on fighting; however, he could not get sufficient support from the other end as none of the remaining Auckland batsmen could cross the 20-run mark.
After the wicket of the Skipper, Colin Munro was clean bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 Hira was caught by Hildreth off the bowling of Thomas, after making just two runs.
At the end, Vincent and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843.
