CLT20 2011 - Chennai Super Kings v Cape Cobras - First Innings recap
Chennai Super Kings' bowlers pulled the strings back at the right moment as they restricted Cape Cobras from scoring a massive total in a Champions League Twenty20 match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, on September 28, 2011.
The South African club batting first, set up 145 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Cape Cobras' overseas player from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jean-Cedric-Paul-c66748 Duminy supported him well and contributed 29
runs.
For CSK, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760) took two wickets a piece.
The Toss went Cape Cobras' way and much to the surprise of CSK skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Justin-Kemp-c1750 decided to bat first. Dhoni seemed pleased with the decision as he reckons that dew would play a major
role in second innings.
Both teams remained unchanged and it was Cobras batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Levi-c2315 who faced the first ball of the innings bowled by his fellow countryman, Morkel. The batsman took some risks in the first over by improvising a delivery towards
short fine leg for a four. Levi was fortunate to get a boundary because had he missed the ball it would have been a clear case of leg-before-wicket.
The batsman did not have the same luck the second time around and was trapped right in front of the stumps off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victor-James-Marks-c95127 after pitching and Levi (6) was
caught in no man’s land.
Wicket-keeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HH-Gibbs-c1549, who up to that point was a mere spectator.
Both batsmen took the attack back to the bowlers and put on 28 runs for the second wicket. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 was the next man to be dismissed after scoring 18 runs. Bollinger was the one who took the prized scalp of the veteran batsman.
Shah came out to fill in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Peter-Hewitt-c66001 of Gibbs. The batsman looked confident from his body language and did not waste any time in settling in. Shah was rotating the strike and smashed a boundary off any bad delivery bowled to him.
At the end of eight overs, Cobras were going along nicely, scoring at eight runs an over. Bravo however, was able to apply some breaks as the bowler deceived the on strike batsman Vilas with a slower delivery in the ninth over.
Shah and Duminy did not let the tempo go do down; Cobras were scoring at over 7.75 runs per over while the duo were at the crease and compiled 57 runs in the process. The stage was set for Cape batsmen to begin the onslaught as
they had scored 124 runs from 16 overs and had seven wickets in hand.
However, the 17th over of the innings did not turn out the way Cobras were expecting. Morkel was able to see the back of both Shah and Duminy in the same over.
Incoming batsmen trembled and not only did CSK bowlers take wickets but they didn’t allow the batsmen any room to free their arms. The run-rate dropped tremendously and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 ended their innings on a total of 145.
Chasing such a total was well with in Chennai's reach, considering they have one of the best batting departments in CLT20.
