CLT20 2011 - Kolkata v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 – Qualifying Pool B Match – First Innings Recap
Kolkata Knight Riders failed to make use of a good start, as Auckland Aces restricted them to a minute total of 121 in the Champions League T20 Qualifying Pool B match, played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on
Monday, September 19.
KKR stand-in skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692, won the toss and decided to bat first. The captain of Kolkata believed that the pitch would slow down as the match progresses, making it difficult to score runs.
Manvinder Bisla and Kallis opened the innings for KKR. After playing the first over cautiously, Bisla went berserk in the second over, bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Martin-c1295, smashing three boundaries in the process.
Bisla continued to bat aggressively as he bashed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KD-Mills-c1781 for a massive six over point on the penultimate delivery of the third over. Kallis was a mere spectator up to that point but the ace all-rounder joined in on the party
in the fourth over as he guided a full toss from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Alroy-Martin-c50714 for a four.
Auckland bowlers had no answer to the onslaught from KKR batsmen, as Kolkata were 46 without the loss of any wicket at the end of power plays. The 50 run partnership came in the seventh over; with Bisla being the major contributor
with 30 runs.
The Knight Riders were sitting comfortably maintaining a run rate of eight at the end of the ninth over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Bates-c1947, right-arm medium pacer, was finally able to apply some breaks as he brought an end to Bisla’s innings in 10th
over.
Bates was lucky tough, as the batsman missed out on a chance for a boundary off a full toss, getting a leading edge that flew to covers where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 grabbed it with both hands.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 Hira dropped his catch off his own bowling.
However, Pathan did not make use of the dropped chance and found his way back to the pavilion in the next over. He scaled 12 runs from 17 deliveries and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Adams-c1033 was the one who claimed his wicket.
KKR slumped badly as their run rate fell to 6.64 rpo by the time the 14th over came to an end. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890 were
dislodged in the same over.
Auckland was on fire, as some brilliant piece of athleticism was shown from their fielders, which fetched two more wickets, those of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakib-Al-Hasan-c2492. Both batsmen were run out and contributed three and four
runs respectively.
Mills returned to bowl the second last over of the innings; he showed his experience of bowling in the death overs as he went for six runs and finished with match figures of two for 24.
Bates bowled the final over and was tight with his bowling as he conceded 5 runs and had impressive match figures of one for 13 runs from four overs.
