Ruhuna thrashed Leicestershire by four runs in a close contest of the qualifying round of Champions League Twenty20 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on Wednesday, September 21, 2011.
In a nail-biting battle, the islanders kept their nerves and stormed into the main round of the competition by thumping England’s T20 champions.
Citing his crew's chasing ability, the Leicestershire’s stand-in skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042, choose to field first after winning the toss. The bowlers justified their skipper’s call by picking up two early wickets.
Both opening batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harry-Frederick-Gurney-c61806 after collecting six and two runs respectively.
Two down at 17, the situation was extremely tough for the Lankan outfit but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 was there to sort out things. He smashed a fabulous unbeaten innings of 62 runs including six boundaries and a couple of mighty sixes.
He got good support by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karunanayake-Pathiranalage-Shalika-Piyamal-Karunanayake-c70358, who hit a blistering knock of 28 from just 16 balls later in the innings. During his brief stay at the wicket, he wrecked two fours and a couple of big hits.
Following some fantastic work by Chandimal and Karuunanayake, the Lankan team reached 160 for six at the end of the 20th over.
From Leicestershire's bowling, Gurney claimed three wickets whereas http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 and Claude Henderson returned with two and one scalp respectively.
In response, the Foxes got off to a great start, as the two openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshua-Cobb-c1739 and Razzaq amassed 31 runs for the first-wicket-stand. Although, Cobb lost his wicket after scoring 15 runs, Pakistan’s all-rounder kept on playing good cricket. He, however,
was dropped on a couple of occasions.

13 respectively, while no other batsman was able to reach double figures.
In the last over the innings, ten runs were needed to make it to the main round of the competition. However, the Foxes failed to achieve the target, finishing the innings on 156 for the loss of eights wicket.
