Mahela Udawatte, the captain of Champions League T20 qualifying side Ruhuna, has said that they will be banking more on their batting as it is their strong point going into the esteemed tournament, starting in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on Monday, September 19.
The 25-year-old Colombo batsman is relishing on the inclusion of veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Jayasuriya-c2567 in the side and hoped his experience would be quite handy for the team in the high profile tournament.
"Our strong point is batting,” said Udawatte, while talking to the media reporters ahead of the league opener. “We are lucky to have Jayasuriya in our side. He is such a great player and has so much experience. He will surely provide us with some ideas,"
he added further.
Ruhuna, a Sri Lankan based side, has been placed in Pool B of CLT20 qualifiers, featuring Trinidad and Tobago and a county side as well.
Udawatte’s side will play its opening game of the league against Trinidad and Tobago of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 on Wednesday,
September 21.
On the whole, six teams will compete in the CLT20 qualifiers and three will proceed to the group stage of the tournament. Ten sides have already qualified for the main round of the multi-million dollar tournament which will be played between September 23
and October 9 across three Indian cities, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
Udawatte, who has played nine One Day Internationals and five T20 Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, has his hopes attached with the prolific all-rounder, Sanath Jayasuriya and is positive about his side making it to the main round of the Champions League, commencing
on September 23.
However, the bowling department will be a cause of concern for the Sri Lanka based side.
Ruhuna has qualified for the CLT20 relying heavily on their bowling, as they rolled over the opposition twice in the Sri Lanka Cricket Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Tournament, but they will be without their big guns, Suraj Randiv and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735 in the
League. Randiv has opted to play for defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the same tournament while Welegedara is on national duty.
The Ruhuna coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sumithra-Warnakulasuriya-c91799 has also conceded that their bowlers might struggle against good batting line-ups.
