CLT20 - Cape Cobras v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 - Match Recap
New South Wales 135/8 (20/20 ov); Cape Cobras 136/3 (17.2/20 ov) - Cobras won by 7 wickets (with 16 balls remaining)
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 drew the first blood in Champions League Twenty20 tournament as they annihilated New South Wales by seven wickets in a match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Batting first, the Australian club posted 135 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Cobras, the South African club, chased down the total in 18th over while losing three wickets in the process.
NSW skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301, compiled with their captains decision and put on a partnership of 41.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Peterson-c2332 bowled the first over of NSW’s innings and it went for seven runs. Cobras were lacklustre in the field early on and gave both batsmen couple of chances.
Cobras missed a chance to get Warner run out on the second delivery of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753.
Cobras gave Warner another life as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134 dropped a regulation catch of the batsman at mid-on, off Charl Langeveldt’s bowling. The bowler was enraged by the dull effort exhibited by his fielders, especially when Watson was
dropped in his next over. Petersen was the culprit this time around.
Warner failed to make the most of the dropped chance as the batsman got out after scoring just 20 runs. Langeveldt was delighted to get his man, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Ontong-c1704 broke the jinx and held on to a catch.
Watson however, continued to bat in his aggressive manner as NSW were nicely placed at the end of power plays with 54 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket.
Watson’s innings was short-lived after the power play, as Petersen made up for his earlier miss. The bowler flighted the ball and enticed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 to play a rash shot which he did and ended up losing his wicket. The Aussie all-rounder
scaled 34 runs from 29 deliveries.
NSW started to lose the plot once they passed the half-way mark. They lost the wickets of their skipper, Katich and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Smith-c1313 in quick succession.
Cape bowlers started to build pressure by draining the batsmen for runs. Steyn and Langeveldt continued the pressure in death overs as NSW ended their innings with just 135 runs on the scorecard.
For Cobras, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Levi-c2315 opened the innings. The international sensation, Gibbs, was a mere spectator in the first few overs as his partner on the other end was raising havoc upon NSW bowlers.
Gibbs however, showed his class in the fifth over when he clobbered http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins for two fours and one massive six.
Both batsmen continued to bat aggressively and brought up their fifty run partnership in the sixth over.
The story was pretty much the same after the power plays, as NSW started to go down http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moises-Henriques-c2021 took the wicket of Levi. There was a tense moment for the
Proteas when their one-down batsman Shah got out after just scoring three runs.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 was still stood tall and he reached to a well deserved half-century in 13th over. The batsman was dismissed five runs later but by that time his side were just 24 runs away from the total which they successfully
chased in the 18th over.
