CLT20 shows spike in viewership figures
The broadcasters of the Champions League T20 will be a much happier lot than they were last year. According to the television rating figures released on Thursday there was a definite increase in the viewership for the tournament this year as compared to
the previous season in 2009. The 2009 season was also its first one.

beaten Trinidad and Tobago in the previous edition of the tournament.
According to the all-India TV Rating, the number of people who watched the final was 3.3% of the population while the average rating for the entire tournament was 1.45. The average rating for the previous tournament was 1.06.
The first edition of the Champions League T20 evidently had a less than lukewarm response. One of the chief reasons for this was the lack of quality cricket by Indian teams – Deccan Chargers crashed out in the first round without a win, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 and Bangalore
failed to make it to the semi-finals. The format of the tournament was another reason, while the totally new teams and unheard of players made it difficult for the audiences to take interest.
This season saw the official broadcaster of the tournament, ESPN-Star, promote the event much more aggressively, as they even roped in popular Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachhan as the brand ambassador. This was followed by the presence of Australian all-rounder
Andrew Symonds and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in the commentary box. What also helped was the presence of two Indian teams in the semi-final of the tournament, one of whom went on to feature in the final and win the trophy.
