CME Group Titleholders 2012: Brittany Lincicome makes surprise charge in second round
American Brittany Lincicome made a surprise charge in the second round of CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she registered a 69 to take a share of the third position along with three other contenders.
Lincicome got off to a decent start at the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament on Thursday at The TwinEagles Club, Florida, as she posted a 68.
However, due to other players having made huge scores on Thursday, the American star was not able to find a spot inside the top 5. She capitalised on first-round leaders’ errors and found
herself in a much better position at the end of the second round.
Lincicome started the round with a solid strategy, as she knew that the only thing that would help her rise was avoiding bogeys and shooting as much birdies as she could.
She, despite vowing not to mess up the scorecard with lousy shots, faltered on the greens of the third hole and ended up carding a double bogey. After that, she played calmly and managed
to shoot six birdies in an attempt to make a comeback in the match.
Weather conditions were quite favourable on the second day, because calm winds blew throughout the round, helping players adjust the course conditions early in the day.
Sharing her thought while speaking to the LPGA Tour at the end of the round, Lincicome said that she was aware of her poor start, which kept her in trouble in early hours. But later, she said,
she focused more on the short game and went on a birdie binge.
“You know, I didn't start, I guess, the way I wanted to. I'm not sure if I told you yet, but I've been battling some back issues that started yesterday,” said Lincicome who has become one
of the rising American stars in women’s golf since turning professional.
She mentioned her worst shot on the front nine, which caused her a double bogey. “It was kind of one of those where I first teed off the first couple and then I doubled No. 3 and I was like,
oh, gosh, you know, this is going to be really bad for my day”.
