CME Group Titleholders 2012: Karine Icher moves up one spot in second round
French Karine Icher could not display as good a performance in the second round as she did in the first round of CME Group Titleholders 2012, but she was glad that she was able to improve
her position by one spot.
Although Icher is not among the hot favourites for the four-day Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament, a solid start to the match has got her hopes up and she is ready to
further boost her position in the final two rounds.
The French star started her round on Friday with her head held high, but she failed to fully capitalise on her first-round performance. She carded a 70, which however did not stop her from
rising to a share of third position at the end of the day.
Commentators said that most of the first-round gainers failed to keep their momentum going on the second day, which helped players like Icher make a charge in the lineup.
Such an increase in her position would have been hardly imaginable if players like Norwegian Suzann Pettersen and Sun Young Yoo had not messed up their scorecard on Friday.
Pettersen, who shot a 66 in the first round on Thursday, had managed to gain an early lead along with South Korean Sun Young Yoo and So Yeon Ryu. But she slipped to a share of third position
after carding a 71 in the second round.
Icher showed a stellar performance on some holes, reflecting that she is able to tear apart the entire lineup if she holds her nerve. She tactfully handled the ball on the greens of 5th
hole and fired an eagle.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, the LPGA star said that she was confident right from the start of the four-day tournament, but was also a little worried due to “tough course”.
“I mean, with this pin position, the wind. I mean, when you miss the green on the wrong side, you're almost dead. So I had a double on No. 3 and the pin was in front, so the wide of the
green was maybe six or seven yards,” said Icher who currently ranks 37th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
“So it's not easy to put the ball on the green, and then I did like back and forth. But eagle was more than welcome”.
