CME Group Titleholders: Na Yeon Choi takes second position in second round
South Korean Na Yeon Choi came across as a much more confident contender in the second round of CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she posted a 68 to grab the second position on the leaderboard.
Choi, who got off to a steady start at the four-day tournament as she fired a 67 to take a share of fourth position in the first round, remained firm on Friday as well, as she unveiled her best putting skills on the greens.
The South Korean star started the round with heaps of confidence as she parred the first hole and fired a birdie on the second. She then parred the next two holes, but could not stand her ground when it came to facing a hard putt on the greens of par-5 5th, carding a bogey.
On the 9th hole, she played much more sensibly and easily holed a birdie-putt.
On the back nine, the LPGA star continued to pound the field with birdies and pars. She did not let her nerve derail her at all, despite the fact that the putting green troubled most of the contenders.
She received a big round of applause from American spectators after she launched two back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th hole.
“I think actually the last two days my putter was really great, you know.  I mean, when I had a par putt, I supposed a little nervous,” said Choi who has grabbed a total of six LPGA titles so far, which also includes a major one she picked at the 2012 US Women’s Open.
“Last two day I had a really good confidence, and even last hole my par putt was like four meter, but I made it. And I mean, yeah, last two day my putting was great and even I hit a lot of good shots, especially today I think I was very calm on the course”.
Commentators said that Choi has now put herself in a stronger position than the first day, standing just one stroke off of the lead.
Japanese Ai Miyazato posted a sizzling 64 on Friday to grab the solo lead. But commentators said Choi is posing the current leader a serious threat, as she is likely to play a more aggressive short game in the next two rounds.
