CME Group Titleholders: Paula Creamer ties for 36th position in first round
American Paula Creamer carded four bogeys in the first round of CME Group Titleholders 2012 to shoot a 72, taking a share of 36th position on the leaderboard.
Creamer is among the hot favourites for the tournament being played at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, but she has failed to make as solid a start as she was expected to.
She opened the round in an unimpressive style as she carded a bogey on the first hole. She then parred the next hole and messed up once again, registering another bogey.
The weather conditions remained calm, with moderate winds sweeping through the course all day. Players capitalised on the favourable course conditions, making big scores early in the day on Thursday.
Creamer, who has been trying to get back to winning form since her last victory at the US Women’s Open in July 2010, failed to unveil her usual game and made several mistakes on the front nine.
She carded her third bogey on the par-4 6th. Further denting her confidence, Creamer mishandled the ball on the greens of the difficult par-3 8th hole.
On the back nine, the American star tried to make a charge and managed to shoot an eagle on the par-4 11th and a birdie on the par-5 13th hole.
Commentators said that if Creamer had played sensibly on the front nine, she would have posted a much better score, but she tried to offset its impact on the back nine with one eagle and one birdie.
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen displayed a fiery performance as she carded a 66 to grab an early lead along with South Korean So Yeon Ryu and Sun Young Yoo.
Sun Young Yoo also remained strong throughout the day and made perfect strokes on most of the holes.
“I tried to forget previous holes so I can think of next shot and just think about one shot at a time,” said Yoo who has racked up two LPGA titles so far, which includes a major one at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April this year.
“I missed short one on No. 7, I started on back nine, so No. 7, so that was kind of (indiscernible) to get me going.  But I still have 54 holes to play, so I feel good”.
