CME Group Titleholders: Shanshan Feng grabs spot inside top 10
Chinese Shanshan Feng was among the hot favourite LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars at the CME Group Titleholders, as she had vowed to win the season-ending tournament.
Feng could not win the four-round tournament, played at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, but she managed to finish tied for the seventh position thanks to an overall score of 281.
Feng possessed a combination of solid swing, and a perfect short game skill that put her in the limelight. However, it took her an all-out effort to find a spot inside the top 10.
The Chinese star started the first round in an impressive style as she carded a 70. But she picked up pace in the second round and managed to shoot a 69, putting some pressure on her nearest
rivals.
Commentators said that Feng is one of the rising stars from Asia, and she has show in the recent past that she is able to beat any contender.
Her amazing performance was reflected in the third round as well, because she fully capitalised on the favourable course conditions, carding a 69. A solid score further strengthened her position
on the leaderboard.
The last round was a little troubling for the young gun as she lost her control on her drive and made errors on some of the holes. She posted a 73 to dent her score a little, but still managed
to keep on the safe side in the end.
Japanese Ai Miyazato was also happy with her performance in the LPGA tournament. Miyazato shot an overall 279 to grab the fifth position on the leaderboard.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the third round on Saturday, the Japanese star said that she made an all-out effort to remain in contention, and she hoped to keep the momentum going in
the final round as well.
“Until No. 9 second shot, I had just so many times in between shots and I get a gust of wind and sometimes just wind stop and it was really hard to commit like all the way through,” said Miyazato
who has won nine LPGA event so far in her professional career.
