CME Group Titleholders: Stacy Lewis messes up in second round
American Stacy Lewis faltered in the second round of CME Group Titleholders, as shot a 72 to tumble to a tie for 24th position on the leaderboard.
Lewis was justified in regretting her below-average form in the second round of CME Group Titleholders 2012 as she carded three bogeys in the round, taking a toll on her overall position on the leaderboard.
Although the American star is currently standing outside the top 20 on the leaderboard, she has not lost hope and is still confident that she can rebound in the four-day LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament by shooting big scores on the last two days.
Lewis’s performance was much better in the opening round that saw her card a 70 to take a share of the 16th position.
Despite making a sluggish start as compared to most of her archrivals, Lewis is being regarded as the hot favourite for the prestigious season-ending title.
But the LPGA titan was seen wavering on most of the holes on Friday, at the prestigious TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, as she looked like she found it hard to handle the ball properly on the greens.
She started the round on Friday cautiously as she parred the first two holes. She launched her first birdie on the par-4 3rd hole.
Lewis fumbled on the greens of par-3 4th hole and ended up posting a bogey. She, however, tried to make a charge in the round by shooting two straight birdies on the 6th and 7th.
Japanese Ai Miyazato looked completely fired up on the second day of the season-ending event, as she carded a 64 to take a solo flight to the top of the leaderboard.
Miyazato shared her thoughts at the end of the tournament, expressing her confidence in her game. She said that she failed to do her best on the first day as she missed several easy par-putts.
“I couldn't make birdies on the back nine yesterday, you know, 13 and 14, I guess, two holes in a row,” said Miyazato who has already won two LPGA titles in the current season.
“I kind of talked to my caddie, we have to play smart on these holes”.
