CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012: Canadian Brooke Henderson fails to make the cut
Canadian Brooke Henderson might have failed to cheer the local fans at CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, but she gained much-needed confidence after facing top-ranked Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA)
stars.
When Henderson set foot on the Vancouver Golf Club on Thursday, she was brimming with confidence, but her smile faded when she came crashing down in the second round, missing the cut.
The first round was fraught with trouble as she posted an unimpressive 77 to make a slow start. Posting a grim score in the first round took a toll on her position and she kept faltering throughout the second
round on Friday. She registered a 76 on the second day — a score not enough to earn her a good position on the leaderboard.
Canadian spectators, who wanted to see the national players perform well at their own soil, gave plenty of support to all the players — not just Canadians.
However, fans said players like Henderson could have done much better.
The second round, which saw the Canadian star storm off the course at the end of the day, proved unlucky for her as all she could do was to card four bogeys.
On the other hand, the first round went even worse. Henderson parred the first hole but faltered on the putting green of second hole, carding a bogey. She, however, drained her first birdie on the difficult
par-3 third in a bid to regain composure.
Overall, the Canadian golfer carded six bogeys and one birdie in the first round.
Commentators said that Henderson could have played much more sensibly, but her game looked shaky on the greens. She made most of her errors on the greens, not being able to make calculated putts.
“It was a little rough.  Struggled on the greens today, but hopefully I'll get on the putting green and be more aware of the slopes.  Pretty fast on some of them,” Henderson said of her performance on the greens
in the opening round.
“I had two members from my club that flew up to watch this week.  My aunt and uncle and my mom and dad, so lot of family support and a lot of support from the fans, for sure. It was an
amazing experience overall”.
