CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012: Suzann Pettersen improves position in second round
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen posted a 69 in the second round of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, improving her position to tie for the seventh spot along with Vicky Hurst of the United States and South Korean Ji
Yai Shin.
Pettersen was confident that she had what it took to perform well at Canadian Open before she teed off because the professional golfer won the 2009 edition of the tournament.
The Norwegian star, who got off to a decent start by posting a 71 in the opening round at the Vancouver Golf Club, started her second round with the same vigour. She played perfect putts on most of the holes
and avoided making too many lousy strokes.
She drained a birdie on the very first hole and then parred the next. On the difficult par-3 third hole, she looked calm as she sank the birdie-putt with ease.
After parring the fourth and fifth hole, she shot her third birdie on the sixth, further strengthening her position on the leaderboard. Although in high spirits due to making a good start, the LPGA (Ladies
Professional Golf Association) faltered on the tricky par-3 seventh and ended up registering a bogey. However she quickly regained her momentum by shooting a birdie on the ninth hole.
On the back nine, Pettersen could not bring changes to her plan for the round as she carded two bogeys and two birdies.
Commentators said that finding a place inside the top 10 at the second round is enough for Pettersen to move ahead in the next two rounds.
Although still far behind the leaders of the tournament, the Norwegian prodigy is eager to make a major breakthrough this time.
She spoke to the media and expressed confidence in her game. She said she is happy with her current form.
“This is a round with a little bit of everything. I had some good stuff. I hit a few loose ones, so there are two more rounds, and I feel like I can get in position and get more and more comfortable with
the speed of the greens on at least the front but also the back,” Pettersen said.
“They vary so much in speed from what angle you come in. You had three downhill putts in a row, and then you have an uphill putt and it's hard to get the ball to the hole”.
