What should I go into first before becoming a RN? CNA or Medical Assistant? What do you think would be the faster way to become a RN? or should I just try to get into the LPN program?

  1. LPN. Don't waste your money becoming a Medical Assistant if you are going to then become a Nurse. CNA classes usually take a few weeks to a few months. It might even be required that you become a CNA before you get into the RN program. Just check with your college.

I really believe that working as a nurse's assistant first will make you a better nurse.

  2. At my college, an LPN skips the first year of the program and has only 3 semesters left.  So, I would definitely go the LPN route.  You'd not only get more experience but also better pay.  Being a CNA helps you to get your basic fundamentals down but you'd get that as being a LPN too.
