After all the US Hostages were never invited to spy or fly Colombian air space. furthermore, why spying on a foreign nation makes you a hero? Anyone.?

I am not sure about the first statement you made about not being invited to spy or fly on Colombian air space, however

Spying has been used for centuries to gather intelligence for national interest, Industrial espionage, and neighbour to neighbour makes them a hero in the eyes of some, and much less heroic to others.
