I'm doing a public presentation on Global Warming and want to be able to say: if everyone sitting in this room(x) planted one tree the this much CO2 would be taken out of the atmosphere. Then if everyone sitting in this room(x) planted two trees the this much CO2 would be taken out of the atmosphere... but i can't find any where that is shows the intake of CO2 by plants... please help!!!! its driving me CRAZYYYYY!!!!!

  1. 1 tree over a 100 year period will absorb ~1100 Kg of CO2 from the Atmosphere. This is based on offset company claims and international research by the University of Florida, which states that an acre of  young growing trees (~400 trees) can absorb 5000 Kg of CO2 per year. Our model also takes into account that a mature tree only absorbs 7.5 kg of CO2 per year, while a young and actively growing tree can absorb 13 kg+ of CO2 per year.

  2. No matter how much CO2 they take out of the air while they are growing, it all gets put back in the air after the tree dies and the wood decays. You can see a small scale example of that in the detailed CO2 concentration graph, which shows a small up and down cycle of CO2 each year as the leaves fall in the Autumn and decay, giving off CO2 and then new leaves grow in the spring and take in CO2.

  3. On your report you could say that CO2 is possibly proved to be helpful for the atmosphere because the trees stay green longer in the fall to clean the air! We are seeing this happen especially in the U.S. this last year!
