Ok, so I have avast! from download.com. I was installing updates last night. It was taking forever, so I stopped it because I needed to do something online before I went to bed, thinking I'll just start the updates after I was done. Well when I restarted it, it's just a black screen with a cursor flashing at the top. When it somes on, it says, hit F2 or F12 for something. It won't do anything. I can't get it to any type of screen. It just goes straight to the black screen and just stays there. HELP!!!!!!!!

I put it in this category because this is where I'll get the quickest response. Please help! I am an online student and I need a working computer! Thank you!!!

  1. You need to give more details on your system:

What operating system are you running?  Mac, XP (ver?), Vista (ver?)?

Sounds like you are using a Microsoft operating system.  If you can, you will need to boot into safe mode.  Here is a good link with many details to get there:

Not sure what is causing it.  If your hard drive died, this probably won't fix things, but may help you if you are having other problems.  You might have to restore to a previously known good configuration.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Does your computer have any life at all.  Is it Dead? Do you hear any beeps???    Does it at least power up?  You dont mention if it is a laptop or desktop.

If it doesn't power up, you may just need a simple fix., like a power supply.  Take out the power supply and check it.  Price should be reasonable.

If it is not the power supply, it may be the motherboard.  That is costly.

If it is a desktop, and it is the motherboard, I WOULD buy a new motherboard, and Now you have a New Computer.

You will have to install windows again, etc.

    Good Luck

  3. Shut down and again start your computer....press F8 while it is starting it will take it to safe mode

Then, please perform the steps below. To use the System Restore Wizard, make sure you're logged on as an administrator, and then follow these steps:

1.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.

2.On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.

    3. On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, and then click Next.

This should solve your issue but this will disable your latest downloads.

  4. ohhhhhhhh then i'm sorry i don't know!
