  1. Yes it could. It will set a EVAP code if its not sealing good. Your fuel system is not supposed to be open to the out side air. Its a closed system. After you start you car the power control module goes thru a self check test on the fuel tank evaporative system to see if there are any leaks in the system.If there is the check engine will come on. The system always has a slight vacuum on it and if you loose that vacuum it will make the light come on.

  2. yes it can...but i would have the codes read...if it comes back as large leak in evap system then replace the cap...if it comes back as small leak its somthing other than the cap..its a good idea to replace your gas cap occasionaly anyway....but in your year of auto...we believe it will be something other than the evap system failure... have it checked....good luck

  3. Yes, amongst a million other things as well.

  4. It can but so can 500 other things.  No way to know unless you take it in to have the problem diagnosed.

  7. no, it's a dummy light. the light is connecter to your oxygen sensor. some car's have 1 other's have 3. it should cost around $15 to replace each of them. The light will also come on when your a qt. low on oil, depend's on the can, its free to check the oil.

  8. Absolutely yes.

  9. >>  COULD A BAD SEAL

    Could be... Yes...

    ===

    But it could also be one of a dozen or more sensors.  It could be anything.  Stop guessing because that's going to cost you.  Go to Autozone to get your engine code scanned - FREE.

    Good luck....

  10. yes.  if you look in your owners manual, that is one thing that is specifically listed as something to check if your engine light comes on.  actually, if you take it to a mechanic, that's probably the first thing he'll check.

  11. Yes.  A co-worker of mine has a Mitsubishi Endeavor.  The check engine light came on because the gas cap was not sealing properly.  A new gas cap fixed the problem.  A bad sealing gas cap can also cause other types of cars' check engine lights to come on.  I had a Mazda Protege and it stated in the owner's manual that if you don't properly close the gas gap, the check engine light could come on.
