Question:

CPA Service Fee?

My CPA finally sent me my return, received in mail yesterday, and even though I sent her my materials and I everything was finalized by April 15th, I just received it yesterday. I was originally under the impression I would have to pay in and did. But now, upon seeing my actual return, she says I should get a nice refund and wants $500 for her services, even though I didn't see my return till now, and was originally under the impression I would have to pay in. Now I know usually one has to pay pretty top dollar when a CPA is involved, but with the delay in her getting stuff to me, this seems like a bit much. Should I have it looked into? Thanks!

  1. You don't mention how complicated your return was.  It should not be unusual for a CPA to charge $500 for a return that requires an extension of time to file.  You are probably dealing with a person who has a hourly professional fee rate of $150 to $250 per hour.
