CPCU Designation???

I'm not sure where to begin. I want to go for it, but I have questions...first, is any sort of financial aid available? I'm a single mother and it looks as though I'll be spending 4-500 per course with study materials and exam fee's....#2) When you're going through the course, are there mentors or "teachers" that you can contact with questions?.....#3) Where should I register? I need help! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  1. I prefer The National Alliance's Society of Commercial Insurance Counselors.  Unlike CPCU's long, drawn out courses taken over a number of weeks (if it's still done this way), SCIC classes are comprehensive and taken over two and a half days.  You take the exam the afternoon of the third day.  All the information is very current, and they offer scholarships to those who need help paying for the classes.  I highly recommend this program.  After 5 classes, you earn the CIC designation.  Check it out at www.scic.com.

  2. 3.  www.AICPCU.org

    2. Are you employed?  There are generally experts to many CPCU topics among co-workers.  There is also a student bulletin board at www.AICPCU.org

    1. Financial aid - again, if you are employed, your employer may provide books and tuition reimbursement.

  3. To answer you the best I can ..

    1) Not that I'm aware of.  Even if the course costs $500 a pop, you only need eight. Here's where my math major comes in ..  $4000.  Figure it should take 2 years to get them all, you could budget  the money.  Or look for some used books. Check your local library, you never know. Your employer may kick in for the material or reimburse for courses passed.

    2) Google search your local area for a CPCU society.  If you're in a bigger  city, there should be a group. The CPCU society where I live offers classroom courses for $160 each.  Some books you buy have a self study disk.

    3) www.AICPCU.org - the website.

    Good  luck
