CPL rated A/P mech. can fly and perform test flight in a 747-400 with a rated ATPL pilot?

can i ask if a employed A/P mechanic with a rated CPL can fly and perform a test flight of 747-400/A340-300 with a rated ATPL pilot? (as a FO or PIC?)

  1. the mechanic would need a type rating to fly that big of an aircraft and would most likely fly in the FO seat


  2. As FO with the proper training.

    Nope kevin. No type rating required unless for PIC.

  3. It depends on where the aircraft is registered.  Most ICAO countries require two typed pilots for large aircraft over 12,500lbs.  In fact, the US is one of the few exceptions.  

    If we knew where the aircraft was registered we could point you in the right direction.
