  1. The recommended ratios are 30 compressions to 2 breaths for adults and children by a solo rescuer.  For children, with two rescuers, it changes to 15:2.  When a secure airway is inserted (an endotracheal tube) you do not stop compressions to give breaths.

The newest guidelines for adults cared for by non-healthcare professionals is to do compressions without giving breaths.

If you are not a healthcare professional with a defibrillator available, call for an AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, which will tell you if and when to shock the patient.

If you are a healthcare professional with a defibrillator, you should shock only if you see ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia.
