CPU: Can I stick my old P4 2.8ghz cpu from my old dell into a nice new mobo?

And if I get either sli'ed 8800gts or one 9800GX2 how will the system perform in games such as Crysis or Bioshock?

I'd of coarse be getting at least 2 gigs of ram, plus a better case and cooling, so the cpu would be the weak point big time, but with the nice video card setup would almost all games still run 50fps+ at high resolutions?

  1. Well your old CPU is a single core 478 form type(probably northwood) Unless your new mobo is also an intel 478 form factor mobo, there is no chance of it working. If you bought a brand new intel type mobo, chances are it is a 775 or higher. Get the right cpu for that type of board. If your board is indeed 478, and northwood, your games should run average

  2. Hmm, why not? A couple more things to consider, ensure there is enough power to distribute to the different components. The Nvidia cards are a considerable drain on the power resoruces. A new power supply wont break the bank. Also make sure your BIOS supports the better hardware you're installing. Usually it isn't a problem so you should be ok. P4 2.8 is still a good cpu. I may have left something out but thats what I can think of at the mo. Good luck.
