CPU help dual core or single core for gaming?

i want to now if for playing high end games like fry cry 2 if its better to have a single with more Ghz or a dual core im wondering this cuz i have a 939 socket board so dual cores are kinda expensive

and someone told me that u need buffered memory for some CPUs what is that and what CPU's need it?

  1. For the latest games, dual-core is better. You might not find as much difference with older games, but the latest ones take advantage of the new technologies in dual-core CPUs. The label may say that there is 2.4 GHz for a clock speed, but with Dual-core processors, you double that speed (2.4x2=4.8) Yes, dual-cores are expensive with socket 939 so you might want to get one off of ebay or craigslist. Make sure you have adequate cooling for it too, dual-cores can prouduce as much or more heat as single-core processors. Good Luck with this!


  2. If you can get a good price on eBay, then upgrade.  Otherwise, it's probably not worth it.

  3. Go with a duel core, although it may have less GHz, it distributes processes more efficiently.
