  1. yes... rebuilding is an unvaoidable consequence of 2 strokes.... and doing it often is unavoidable as well... BUT they are simple engines, and working on them is very straight forward and easy, even for those who have no clue how ot turn a ratchet.... don't let yourself be intimidated.... because if you look at the whole engine, it is intimidating.. but every part does something, and every bolt holds something in.... of course you don't know it, yet... you've never worked on it.. the parts involved are also alot cheaper then four strokes.... two strokes are designed for this rebuild... aside from very longetive maintence, four strokes aren't.... if you're rebuiling, the bike is either very old, or you didn't do your job of taking care of it... the parts aren't cheap, and it's not simple....

but have you ever put together a model? it's basicly the same.. only this time you're using tools and bolts instead of glue.... every part goes somewhere and except for anamolies, every part will only fit where it's supposed to go... for those that don't, it's a simple game of logic.....

neither is better then the other.... a statement in a similar question i made was:

when the bikes come that close in specs, the bike doesn't really matter, the rider does.

HOW TO REBUILD YOUR DIRT BIKE

    buy repair manual

    buy top end rebuild kit

follow instructions provided by the manual using the parts from the repair kit.

  2. i would choose CR80 coz YZ85's fall to bits, yes you do have to rebuild them, and if you don't know how to, and can't afford to, don't buy a dirtbike, because it will s***w up and you will have wasted lots of $$$

  3. Top ends need to be changed frequently when ridden hard, Piston and rings do need replacing often.

Both bikes are great, no major differences. You will not go wrong with either. Buy what ever one you can get the best deal on. Buy the newest year that you can afford.
