CRAIGSLIST: Have there been known reports of scams or people getting killed because of craigslist personals?

The reason I ask is because I did a quick search in my area and some of the profiles you can tell are fake because of the picture AND for an example one girls profile said "I havent done this for awhile but I am sure you can show me the ropes" Then 2 profiles down another girl, different age different pictures SAID THE EXACT same line. Then 4 profiles down ANOTHER girl said the same line word for word.

That gets me to think they are fake profiles.

So what are people doing, meeting up with guys that answer these profiles and want to meet up and then killing them or something?

In DC, we just had a case of serial rapes of women who advertised "exotic services" on CL.  The rapist would make a date with them to come to some local apartment complex.  he would ambush them outside or in the stairwell and rape them.  He committed suicide when the cops tracked him down.

They're most likely just trying to scam you into giving up some money.  They're either prostitutes, or they're trying to get you to join some pay site.  

There have been people killed, (I think someone died answering a nanny add earlier this year), but the dating ads are mostly just scammers.
