  1. Go to a different tailor. The one you have now sounds way too bossy and judgmental. It's your body and your dress - find someone who will "make it work."

  2. I don't know I think that dress would look amazing on any frame! The only dresses that may not work on shorter people are the silk straight plain ones that are made for long legs. Get this dress it is amazing!

  3. with your height the skirt may look alittle off but really, have you tried it on yet?  Try asking more than one tailor.  you wouldn't buy a car with just one opinion right?  So do the same for your dress.

It is a GORGEOUS dress by the way.

  4. Well, I agree with the tailor. You would be totally overwhelmed by this dress, you need something much more flattering to your silhouette.

  5. Find another bridal shop, the dress is drop dead gorgeous.

    *Update*

You can always take a picture of yourself in it. Look at it later or show it to someone who will be very honest with you.*

  6. Well, I think it is good to pursue your dreams.  If I were you, I would find a different taylor, and get a second opinion.  Perhaps the taylor is correct, or perhaps he isn't so see what someone else says.  And, if two or three taylors tell you the same thing, then you might have to find another dress that would fit your figure better.  Why not ask the taylor for a suggestion?  but, if another taylor says it is okay, and suggests how to fit it for you, then it might be okay.  And, see about finding a female taylor too, if you have not already.  They are more sensitive to us girls.

  7. I kind of agree with your tailor on this one. Shorter girls (I'm one of them!) have a hard time pulling off the big ballgowns because it really makes you look even shorter than you are. This one will overwhelm you and you'll get lost on the dress.

While it's beautiful, I would suggest finding a different dress that's more streamlined.

What about these options (I'm personally partial to the first one myself, as it will definitely accent your awesome size 8 waist!):

Basically, anything with a dropped waist will look amazing on you because it will elongate your body, and then you can find a dress that has the gown factor on the bottom. That's what my consultant (and fashion-expert BM) told me when I tried on dresses ... and they were right. It sounds like we have very similar bodies as well.

    I really hope that helps!

EDIT: Hun, if you tried it on, and you loved it, then don't listen to the tailor. I would suggest doing another viewing of the dress, and bring a close friend who will be honest with you. If they like it as well,  then it's the dress for you :)

I also agree with muffin. Rules are hard to follow. They generally work, but there are instances when they're wrong. If this ends up being your dress, then this was an instance when the rules were broken ... in a g ood way :)

  8. if you like the way it looks on you then do it, o well what the tailor says its your day if you love the dress then do it (it is very pretty)

  9. I agree with the girls that said if you like it, where it.  If you tried it on and you think it looks good, then you should where it.  Tailors are there to make it fit, not to give their opinion.

  10. I would try it on with an honest friend accompanying you.  You won't know if if will work on your body until you see it on your body.  ANd get a friend (not a tailor) because they will know you better and give you an honest opinion about whether it looks good, not just dictate "dressing rules" to you.

I'm 5'3" and I was trying to follow all the "rules" when I went dress shopping and I wasn't happy with anything until I just risked it and tried on a mermaid style dress I saw in a magazine because I thought it looked really beautiful.  Despite what the rules say mermaid styles look GREAT on me, and that's what i have having now.

So try it on with someone that will tell you if it looks good or bad, and then you will know.

    Good Luck!

  11. Wow, your tailor has quite an opinion. If this is the dress of your dreams, go for it! I would try the dress on, or something similar... if you like it. Tell the tailor that this is what you want and too bad what he/she thinks. Good luck! (I think the dress is beautiful!)

  12. honestly, your tailor is right - probably

I'd suggest going to a dress shop and tying on something similar to get a good idea of how it would look. I'm afraid it would be all dress and you wouldn't shine through the way you would want to.

  13. Girl, I've seen BIG girls wear this dress. YOU DO AS YOU PLEASE. If you tried it on and LOVED it, then whats the matter with it?

  14. If you tried it on and you liked it then go with it....  If you havn't tried it on yet sorry but chances are it will overwhelm your small frame...  I am 5'1" and I had the same issue I wanted one of those dresses that the bottom is almost like belle's from beauty and the beast(I'm a total Disney freak)

it's gorgeous but not on me I looked even shorter and chubbier than I am.

  15. Typically I would disagree, but the way the waist and torso of the dress is.. it may be impossible to alter.. have you tried it on yet?  or something similar?  I'm sure you'll be able to tell right away.. otherwise.. is it worth the risk?

  16. i'm the same height..

and i would need to see it on you!

but i have heard for shorter people fluffy at the bottom makes you look HUGE!

but like the first answer says if you tried it on and you liked it it's your day not some tailor!!!

  17. If that is the dress of your dreams (and it is a gorgeous dress), then I say go for it. This is your wedding and your day.

Is there a way to try the dress or a similar style dress on before you buy?

  18. Your body type sounds similar to mine and I loved those style dresses but when I tried them on, they engulfed me. I felt like I was swimming in fabric. I don't think they were very flattering on me. I'm 5'1 or 5'2, size 6 and 36' bust. It could be different on you, all I know was it made me look bigger.

I went with a mermaid style. it was amazing. SO flattering. I loved it.

if you love it... go for it. But go try it on again and bring an honest friend. it's hard for us to answer because we can't see your body and it on you...

  19. I am short too, and when I tried similar dresses I was disappointed too :( I looked like a midget floating on a giant marshmallow. Short people don't look good in ballgown dresses.

On the bright side, those dresses are very difficult to alter because of all the folds, so you'll save money by buying a simpler gown. Try something that has a decorated bodice but a simple skirt that will elongate your body.
