Question:

CRB Check worries! Will i get into nursing??

I have my heart set on a career in nursing and was wondering if this could be a problem for me. 7 years ago there was an accident involving my baby son which led to Social Services intervention (for a long time). Basically my partner had dropped my son and his leg got broken. I WAS NOT in the room at the time and didn't know exactly what had happened. I never will. My partner and I were cautioned etc but no charges were bought and i have no other cautions/convictions anything on my record. I know that this will show up on an enhanced check and i am worried that although i did nothing wrong this is going to affect me if i want to go into care work which i really do! I am also concerned that there is incorrect info on my CRB which shows me in a bad light. If so could i get this sorted out?! I'm very worried!! Sorry about the ramble!

  1. Not being in the UK, I have no idea what the standards are. But here are a few things you can do:

    1. Contact the CRB and ask if you can get a copy of your record.

    2. Contact one or two nursing schools and ask to speak with someone in Admissions. You might be able to do this over the phone, or you might want to request an in-person interview. Ask whether your CRB would outright ban you from going into nursing and what things you can do to get admitted to their school.

Since there was no conviction and there was only the one incident, I honestly doubt this would pose any problem.
