I'm 17 and am about to start a childcare course, I have to have a CRB check, i have no offences or anything, but it's £30 odd, and I cant afford it at the moment, why should i have to pay for it? Shouldn't the college do that? And what happens to underprivileged kids if they can't afford it?

  1. The college isn't your employer so isn't liable for CRB payments.  When your course finishes and you get a full time job your then employer 'may' pay for the check.

The CRB is relative to you only.  More and more companies are asking for these checks before employment. So it is worth doing.

  2. I'm 46 and unemployed, for me to do a course to acquire a decent well paid job (welding) the 3 year course will cost me thousands.Whats £30 quid when after 3 months yo can walk into a £15k a year job and continue studying in your chosen career and earn loads more.Stop moaning and expecting to have EVERYTHING given to you on a plate ,and if your really that naive got my unemployment benefit today I'LL lend you the £30 quid

  3. It's required by law so the people you work with can check that you have no criminal records etc. If you can't afford it then you can't go on the course / work with children etc.

there's other one's for vunerable people like the elderly, and stupidly you'll have to get a new one for each company you work with - I currently have 4!

Mine cost about £50-£60 so it sounds like you're college is paying half the cost, you've got a good deal there!

  4. Just go to the finance office at the college and ask if they know of any help to pay for it. It will have to be done I'm afraid you will not be allowed to go on any placements without it.

  5. When i done my childcare course the collage paid for it. Now i have to ave 1 done every few years at work and they pay 4 it.  Don't u get a grant whilst at college?  If u don't try 2 enquire about 1 as they are available for families with low income.

  6. not sure about that because i am only 16. but have you tried applying for EMA?
