CRT/DVI cables & HD resolutions?

I just got a new 22 inch monitor but it only came with an old CRT cable which works but is it good enough for HD resolutions ? Should i get a DVI cable ?

  1. The maximum resolution on my Siemens 21 inch Trinitron monitor is 2560x1920, far, FAR beyond HDTV. It's connected thru a VGA cable.

    In your case (a LCD monitor) a DVI cable is better because the signal is transmitted completely in digital - on a VGA cable it's transformed from  digital to analog in the video card, carried as analog thru the cable and transformed back to digital in the monitor, the end result being a slightly lower image quality.


  2. HD as in truest sense? I assume it is otherwise we can't even fathom what it is you have.

    CRT/VGA cable is not capable of HD transmission, such needed leeway is not built-in. DVI is the only way to go if it is available. But the monitor itself seems to be only standard definition that is capable of ED but not HD.

  3. It will go to the same resolution, but you may notice a very slight difference in quality. Personally, if you have DVI, I say use it.
