CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge - Boland v Griqualand West – Match Update
Griqualand 180/299 v Boland 175/217 - Griqualand West won by 87 runs
On Saturday, February 04, 2012 Griqualand West won their three-day match against Boland by 87 runs in the ongoing CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge, at Boland Park, Paarl.
After ending the second day of play by posting 36 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket, Boland resumed their second innings on the third day in a bid to successfully chase the target of 305 runs, set by Griqualand to win the match.
From Boland, OA Ramela and L http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Wyk came out to add score to their overnight tallies of four and twenty runs.
With only one wicket down, the side looked in a comfortable position, while Griqualand bowlers had all the pressure of the world on their shoulders to come out victorious from the match.
Meanwhile, the duo of Boland batsmen, started the day with zeal and confidence as they played impressive strokes and countered dangerous deliveries effectively to exhibit their dominance against a decent bowling attack.
However, with 59 runs on the board, the side lost their second wicket when van Wyk had his stumps shattered after playing an innings of 34 runs.
The wicket of the number-three batsman triggered a batting collapse in the middle-order as four batsmen were dismissed cheaply – without scoring in double figures.
In such a disastrous situation, Ockert Erasmus, acted like a saviour for his side as he provided effective support to Ramela.
The batsmen launched a belligerent batting onslaught against the fielding side in an attempt to forge a defiant resistance against their opponents.
They took the score to 158 runs after which Erasmus was dismissed after hammering a well played innings of 46 runs.
28-year-old, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clairmonte-Christopher-Lewis-c51079 Raubenheimer, was the next man in, who also tried to provide potent support to Ramela. However, with 189 runs on the board, the ace Ramela lost his wicket after playing a superb knock of 64 runs.
With the departure of Ramela, Boland’s hopes of winning the match also disappeared and the side faltered after amassing 217 runs on the board.
