CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge - Border v Eastern Province – Match Update
On Saturday, November 12, 2011 the match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s domestic sides Border and Eastern Province ended in a draw in the ongoing CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge at Schoemans Field, East London.
The track in the playing facility benefitted the batsmen as both sides could play only an innings since the bowlers from both teams failed to grab early wickets which gave the batsmen time to adjust and dominate the bowlers.
From Easter Province, Simon Harmer while from Border http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bevan-Bennett-c1150 scored a ton as both batsmen exhibited strong character while batting against their opposition.
Unfortunately, there was no play on the third day because of bad weather which ended the game in a draw and gave Eastern Province a total sum of 4.12 points while their counterparts made 5.2 points.
Earlier, on the first day of the game after winning the toss, Eastern Province chose to bat first in a bid to bat to dominance against their rivals and create a winnable chance in the match.
While the upper batting ling-up failed to make a mark, it was the batsmen coming in later who actually rose to the occasion and batted handsomely against the bowling brigade of Border.
Apart from Harmer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aldre-Nel-c43068 played superbly as the two batsmen scored 41 and 75 runs to contribute to their team’s emphatic total of 310 runs.
With a formidable total at hand, Border had their work cut out for them as they needed to overcome the tally posted by their opponents and then go on to post a big total to put some sort of pressure on Eastern Province.
However, their plans were dented when in the sixth over as they lost their first wicket when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vuyisa-Makhaphela-c95597 fell after scoring just a run off 18 deliveries. At the time of his departure the side had posted only 14 runs on the board.
With 28 runs on the board, Border lost their second wicket when middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Monde-Zondeki-c77647 without scoring a run.
Later, with three wickets down for 41, Border were in disarray before Bennett and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Romano-Ramoo-c86636 (45) came in to craft a handy resistance against the opposition and played a vital role in ending the second day with 156 runs on the board.
Harmer was named as the Player of the Match for a commendable show with the bat.
