CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge - Border v Eastern Province – Update
On Thursday, November 10, 2011 Eastern Province posted 207 runs at stumps on the first day of the ongoing CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge at Schoemans Field, East London against Border.
After winning the toss, Eastern Province chose to bat first in a bid to post enough runs on the board to give Border a run for their money in the remaining days of the game.
However, Border made early inroads by grabbing their first wicket in the ninth over when East Province opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yanda-Pangabantu-c98206 after posting only nine runs off 21 deliveries. At the time of this wicket,
Eastern Province had managed to post only 26 runs on the board.
Later opener Michael Price and middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Smith-c76205 forged a potent partnership against the opponents in a bid to restrict the bowling side from grabbing anymore wickets.
It was then on the last delivery of the 13th over when Border finally tasted another wicket when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 was caught by Mnyanda off the bowling of pacer Darryl Brown. At the time of this wicket the batting side had managed to post 40 runs on the
board.
By this time things seemed well in control of Border as their bowlers did not allow the batsmen to dictate terms at any point during the game.
Border further stamped their hold on the game by grabbing the wicket of Price who was caught by Mnyanda off the bowling of Pangabantu after playing an innings of 26 runs off 63 deliveries.
By this time, Eastern Province had managed to post 61 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.
Later, however, 21-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aldre-Nel-c43068 played innings of their life as the two batsmen left the Border bowlers in ruins by standing their ground and preventing the opponents from grabbing a chance to bat on the first day of the
match.
Smuts smashed knock of 41 runs before falling to his demise in the 33rd over while Nel went on to play an astounding innings of 75 runs before losing his wicket. The batsman helped his side reach a tally of 205 runs at the time of his departure
which was more than anyone had hoped for before he walked in to bat his way to dominance against a rampant bowling attack.
At stumps Simon Harmer was batting on 32 runs while his partner James Price was standing on a knock of two runs.
