CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge - KwaZulu-Natal v Boland – Update
Saturday, November 12, 2011 saw the match between KwaZulu-Natal and Boland end without a result in the ongoing CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge at Chatsworth Stadium.
Both teams had just two days of play after play did not begin on the first day because of bad weather, this meant that the teams needed to bowl each other out well within two days to make a result out of the match.
However, Boland who had chosen to field first after winning the toss failed to make an impression in the field as their bowlers were reduced to rubble by the KwaZulu-Natal batsmen.
Leaving the second day with 105 runs on the board without the loss of any wicket, KwaZulu-Natal had openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nashen-Govender-c78706 (47) to come out on the third and final day of the match.
Being in a strong position, the batting side cited a massive total on the board, but also needed to score quick enough to give their bowlers adequate time to bowl-out the opposition.
Nonetheless, the match was destined for a draw as it was unlikely for both sides to bowl each other twice to grab a result on the final day.
Meanwhile, Barnes failed to add a run to his overnight tally as his wicket was picked by pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Barry-Childs-c52231 when the batsman was trapped in front of stumps. At this point in time, KwaZulu-Natal were on 111 runs.
Govender then smashed a knock of 58 runs followed a handsomely unbeaten innings of 71 runs from Gareth Roderick.
While lower middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cody-Chetty-c51372 amassed 50 runs in his unbeaten knock to help the side post 257 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.
Coming out to bat, Boland suffered an early loss when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mthokozisi-Shezi-c77838.
However, it was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Godfrey-Cyril-Stevens-c60241 (6) who produced some resistance against the fielding side as Boland ended the day after posting 37 runs on the board.
With this result KwaZulu-Natal have eight points while Boland have six points to their name.
