CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge - North West v Northerns – Match Update
The three-day match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s domestic sides North West and Northerns ended in a draw at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
The three days of the match gave spectators impressive cricket to watch as batsmen from both teams gave an emphatic show by making the match a high scoring event.
Northerns after ending the second day on 293 runs for the loss of two wickets with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abram-Lepho-Ndlovu-c41843 (61) on the crease started the third day in a bid to score quickly and post a daunting total for their opponents to overcome.
North West on the other hand, were completely taken aback by the two batsmen has the duo played exuberantly well and kept smacking deliveries that were bolted at them.
North West knew that they needed to grab early wickets to subdue their opponents and create some sort of a winning chance in the remaining part of the game.
However, the batsmen exhibited complete confidence and made sure not to through their wickets away without putting a fight.
For the bowling side it was impressive to break this lethal partnership which was becoming increasingly dangerous for them.
The duo posted 235 runs in the third-wicket partnership, which actually proved fatal for the bowling side and had they managed to break the partnership early in the day, North West might have succeeded in restricting their opponents from playing a longer innings on the final day of the game.
It was finally in the 87th over when North West managed to grab their first wicket of the day when Malan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Vardhan off the bowling of pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Alexander-c1288 after playing a stupendous knock of 147 runs.
Later, Ndlovu also departed after playing an innings of 93 runs. While his side managed to post 372 runs on the board in their second innings, giving North West a tally of 329 runs to win the match.
Coming out to bat, North West went for the kill as they seemed pretty determined to grab a victory from almost no where, however, Northerns were equally determined to humble their opponents as the bowlers made it is extremely difficult for the opposition to score runs off them.
From North West http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-James-Furstenburg-c81706 gave an impressive performance as the batsmen scored 106 and 81 runs, however, their efforts were not enough to secure a victory as their side could only muster 270 runs for seven wickets at stumps on the final day.
